COMMISSIONED PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIES

Portrait of Place

Every place has its own visual language.

Wayne Ford Studio creates original photographic studies exploring the character and atmosphere of a place—looking beyond the expected to the details that make somewhere distinct.

Commission a Portrait of Place to create a body of original photography that exists nowhere else.

BEYOND DOCUMENTATION

What Does a Place Feel Like?

A Portrait of Place isn’t simply a record of how somewhere looks. It’s an interpretation of what makes that place itself.

Through walking, observation, intuition and time in the field, Wayne looks for the relationships, details and unexpected moments that reveal character—the things that can be missed when photography begins with a predetermined shot list.

The result is a cohesive photographic study: individual images that stand on their own, but together create a richer portrait of the place.

ONE STUDY. MANY POSSIBILITIES.

CREATED FOR PLACE

A Body of Work That Belongs to the Place

A Portrait of Place can be commissioned for a hotel, destination, development, cultural institution or other project with a meaningful connection to place.

The process can begin during planning, design or even the pitch stage—creating a visual direction that grows alongside the project.

For a new hotel, that might mean photography connecting the property to its neighborhood. For a destination, it might reveal an unexpected perspective on the place, creating imagery that can be used throughout the project.

The question is always the same: What makes this place unlike anywhere else?

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PRACTICE

The Work Begins in the World

The photographic practice comes first. The Studio grows out of it.

For a Portrait of Place, that means being there—walking, observing, returning, following intuition and allowing photographs to emerge from direct experience rather than approaching a location only as a list of required images.

Wayne’s background in architecture, interiors, hospitality and documentary photography brings together an understanding of designed environments with an instinct for the unscripted moments that give places their character.

Tell Me About a Place

Have a property, destination or project that could become a Portrait of Place?

Tell me where it is and a little about what makes it interesting. Whether the project is still an idea or already taking shape, I’ll follow up personally to explore what a photographic study could become.
